Popping Syllables

Popping Syllables

Posted by Brainspring on 9th Jan 2023

A syllable is one unit of sound. Learning syllables involves chunking sounds together in words. This helps the student sound out words when reading. Syllabication can also assist with decoding allowing the student to focus on reading one syllable at a time in the word.

Materials:

  • Pop-it

  • Word Lists

The teacher reads words from different lists. The student repeats the word and pushes down one section of the pop-it for each syllable they hear.
