COURSE DESCRIPTION

This comprehensive and highly intensive course qualifies teachers to bring Orton-Gillingham multisensory instruction to their classrooms. Phonics First® transforms beginning, struggling, at-risk readers, and students with dyslexia and learning differences into skilled learners through our effective, fun, multisensory approach to reading and spelling.

NEW FEATURE: Course participants receive one-year, online access to the Phonics First® Course Review. This on-demand access allows teachers to review content, skills and strategies for all lesson components.

Participants Learn to Teach
  • Alphabet and phonemic awareness strategies
  • Basic and advanced phonetic concepts for decoding and encoding
  • A Three-Part Drill for structured review
  • Tactile/kinesthetic spelling techniques for phonetic and non-phonetic words
  • Syllabication for multisyllabic words (8 Syllable Types/3 Syllable Patterns)
  • Oral reading/connected text fluency
  • Higher-level spelling skills

UPON COMPLETION, PARTICIPANTS WILL
  • Receive a document of completion
  • Be eligible for Level II and to apply for Brainspring’s nationally recognized certification program
  • Be prepared to teach all Phonics First phonics (decoding and encoding) content to kindergarten through 5th grade students at all Tiers.
  • Be eligible to purchase 2 Graduate Credits (Ashland University)
CERTIFICATION Applicants

Per IMSLEC, our accrediting body, Level I and Level II courses taken in-person or via our Livestream online format may be applied to certification. Please Note: This does not apply to our self-paced courses.

    Instructors come to your school or district and provide onsite professional development. The instructor will work directly with the teachers to ensure that each participant learns how to utilize and implement the program correctly.
