Multisensory Monday- Consonant-le Uno Game

Posted by Tammi Brandon on 24th Jul 2017

My students, especially my older ones, love to play games, but I am always struggling to find games that are fun and engaging while still teaching the skills my students need. Uno, however, appeals to the older student and can be customized to meet my students’ learning needs.

To play, I created an Uno card deck, complete with Wild, Skip, Reverse, and Draw Two cards. For the other cards, I changed the numbers to Consonant-LE words. DOWNLOAD THE CONSONANT-LE CARDS HERE: C-LE Uno Game

Game play is similar to the traditional rules of Uno:

  • Players are dealt 8 cards. The remainder of the cards are placed face down and become the draw pile. One card from the draw pile is turned face up and becomes the play pile.
  • Player 1 may play one of her cards by matching the color of the card that is on the play pile. Player 1 must read the word on her card as she puts it on the play pile. Player 1’s turn is now over.
  • Player 2 may now play one of her cards that matches the color of the card that Player 1 just played.  Play continues in this manner.
  • If a player does not have the needed color card, she must draw from the draw pile until she draws a playable card. Playable cards include a card of the needed color (including Skip, Reverse, and Draw 2 cards) and Wild and Wild +4 cards. If a Wild +4 card is played, the next player must pick up 4 cards from the draw pile.
  • Play continues until a player runs out of cards.
