Multisensory Monday- Double f, l, s and z (The Floss Rule)

Posted by Brainspring on 3rd Jan 2016

Hi everyone,

Happy 2016! The beginning of this year is dedicated to spelling rules.

Get the poster!

The Rule:

Double the f, l, s or z at the end of a one syllable word with a short vowel.

Exceptions:

Does not apply when the final s sounds like /z/.

Does not apply to ending blends.

What spelling rules are you interested in learning more about?

Be sure to check back each week for a new spelling rule and activities to teach it!

I love Dite’s idea this week for helping students properly use ch or ck when spelling. The illustration in her post is wonderful!

Also, remember to teach your students that -ck comes at the end of a word, never at the beginning.
