Awesome News- Phonics First is Accredited by the IDA!

Posted by Brainspring on 5th Jun 2014

Hi everyone,

Happy Friday!   As if that weren’t enough cause for celebration, I have BIG news fIDA Accredited Program Largerom RLAC!!!!!  While we have already been recognized by the International Dyslexia Association…

we are now officially ACCREDITED by the IDA!

This is a huge achievement.  Co-creator and Master Instructor Laurie Wagner explains that many states “are looking to the IDA as the ‘authority’ for programs and PD that meet appropriate dyslexia intervention/remediation instruction.”

Phonics First meets the IDA’s rigorous standards for accredited courses.  When you read about the IDA Standards you will see that they describe exactly the kind of program you want in your schools:

“The IDA Standards provide a comprehensive, research-supported documentation of what every teacher needs to know and be able to demonstrate, whether they are teaching students with dyslexia, other struggling readers, or the general student population.

The IDA Standards emphasize the need for teachers to be trained more deeply in the structure of language, including the speech sound system, the writing system, the structure of sentences, the meaningful parts of words, meaning relationships among words and their referents, and the organization of spoken and written discourse.

IDA’s Professional Development Committee oversees the IDA Standards review process. The goal of the reviews is to identify and promote high-quality teacher preparation, whether delivered through university or independent teacher training programs, that will improve the educational outcomes for all students, especially those who struggle with written language.”

Those of you who have already been using Phonics First know from first-hand experience that the program works.  Now, we can add the official accreditation to the successes of our teachers and students to strengthen the message that Phonics First is essential for struggling readers!

Please share this news and information with other teachers, administrators and parents that you know.  Most of us are already using Phonics First and seeing the difference it makes with our struggling students.

Every struggling student deserves the best and most appropriate instruction, so help spread the news about Phonics First and encourage more teachers to get trained!
