Multisensory Monday: Paw Prints for Diphthong AW

Diphthong. Even pronouncing this word is tricky! This weeks’ Multisensory Monday activity uses the keyword “paw” to help students recall the /aw/ sound. If you have students that are fans of animals and adventure, this activity is the right up their alley.

According to good old Webster, a paw is “the foot of a quadruped (such as a lion or dog) that has claws.”  Furthermore, a track is simply a footprint left in dirt, snow, mud, etc. Students may not know the difference between a paw and a track, and if they enjoy learning about animals, why not! They will reinforce /aw/ throughout the entire discussion. High five to that! Or high four, three, etc.
